A thrilling, wintry Nordic epic from the truly magical combination of author Neil Gaiman and illustrator Chris Riddell, weaving a tale of legend, magic and adventure which will grip and enchant readers from beginning to end.

Odd, a young Viking boy, is left fatherless following a raid and in his icy, ancient world there is no mercy for an unlucky soul with a crushed foot and no one to protect him. Fleeing to the woods, Odd stumbles upon and releases a trapped bear . and then Odd's destiny begins to change. The eagle, bear and fox Odd encounters are Norse gods, trapped in animal form by the evil frost giants who have conquered Asgard, the city of the gods. Now our hero must reclaim Thor's hammer, outwit the frost giants and release the gods.

I am a huge fan of both Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell so I jumped at the chance to review this and to you know....stare at the pretty pictures! Personally, I feel like Gaiman and Riddell are a perfect combination but there you go! This is a completely gorgeous book and will be perfect as a gift for people of all ages. The illustrations are so beautiful and so detailed, plus even the chapter headers and the page numbers had illustrations!

I love Norse mythology so of course I loved this book and the story it told. It's brilliantly written as you would expect from Gaiman and has his unique touch. It's rich and humorous and while it's a quick read, it's one that you'll come back to and read again and again. I loved the way the words and images combined on the page, and I'm genuinely a little bit in love with this book! There's plenty of Norse mythology, mentions of stories from it are all over the place and it's made me super excited for Gaiman's mythology book!

So, obviously I love the book and I want you guys to love it too, because I think a lot of you really will both because of Gaiman's fantastic storytelling, but also because of Riddells beautiful drawings and his attention t detail...so....have some sneak peeks from inside the book!
