Kingmaker. Soothsayer. Warrior. Mage. Kingdoms would rise and fall for her . . . if she is ever found...

In the icy North, where magic is might, an all-powerful elite ruthlessly guided by a glacial Queen have grown to dominate the world. Now rebellion is stirring in the rough, magic-poor South, where for the first time in memory a warlord has succeeded in uniting the tribal nations.
Stuck in the middle is Cat – circus performer and soothsayer – safely hidden behind heavy make-up, bright colours and the harmless illusion of the circus. Until someone suspects she’s more than she seems . . .

Captured by the Southern warlord Griffin, Cat’s careful camouflage is wearing thin. For how long can – or should – she conceal the true extent of her power? Faced with dragons, homicidal mages, rival Gods and the traitorous longings of her own heart, she must decide: is it time to claim her destiny and fight?

When I was asked to take part in this blog tour, I said yes because the synopis drew me in. I was intrigued, it sounded like it was going to be good...and it was. But it was also so much more awesome than I was expecting! I'm such a greek mythology nerd, and I had no idea that this book would have a load of Greek gods in it! Which obviously immediately made me sit up and take notice!

I was immediately drawn in to the world of the book from the first page. The world was intriguing, as was it's history, and like I said, as soon as I caught wind of the Greek gods I was hooked. I mean...all I had to hear was the word 'Cerberus' and 'Hades' and I was like OOOOOOHH! I'm seriously hoping we get to see more of them in the next book! I'm so curious as to why they're all on Team Cat, and I loved it whenever they got mentioned! Like Cerberus just casually guards the circus, Poseidon is Cat's God Father but I haven't worked out in what capacity that is. And Hades has a thing for Selena. I just loved how they where dropped in here and there!

I was intrigued by Cat from the start, I wanted to know what she was hiding, there where little tidbits dropped and when I put it together I was like OH SNAP. But then I still wasn't entirely sure, and then the big reveal was made and I was like okay this just got even more awesome. I'm in need of the next book to see what Cat does. I was a bit disappointed by the ending and I didn't really like it all that much because I was hoping she was going to reveal who she was and then it would be an epic cliffhanger but oh well.

I really liked the characters, I immediately loved Flynn, Kato and Carver and I loved the banter they had with Cat and their camaraderie. They cracked me up and I loved all the scenes with them! I wanted to know more about them, and I'm totally shipping two of them with other characters already, although I'm really curious about Carver! I also really loved Egeria, Jocasta, Kaia, Anatole and Nerissa. All the characters really jump to life, you want to know more about them and they help to pull you into the book.

And then there's Griffin. I loved the chemistry between Cat and Griffin. Griffin isn't a perfect character, but he is definitely a badass and I'm intrigued to get to know him better in the next book. I really liked the romance, it brought the warm and fuzzies and I liked watching it build up. I'm not going to lie though, I did cringe a couple of times at some scenes. They where a little bit cheesy, and Griffin could be a little bit too alpha male. BUT I still enjoyed it, and this book really lifted my mood and I ended up being totally lost in the book so I'm overlooking that!

The plot had a lot of different threads to it, and I found it to be complex, but also easy to read. It wasn't overly complicated that it made it hard to read, I mean! There was a complexity to it without being overwhelming. I loved all the little tidbits dropped about Cat's history, and I loved trying to work out the mysteries to it. There's also a very nice pace to it, so you can zoom through the book!

A Promise of Fire really made me laugh out loud, and I couldn't put it down. There's Greek mythology and Gods scattered throughout, Dragons, and plenty of other awesome little details. Cat can do so many cool things, although I'm trying to work out which are part of her Kingmaker abilities and which she was gifted. Her main Kingmaker ability is that she can tell truths from lies, and she really reminded me of Safi from Truthwitch on that front, but she can also appropriate peoples magic, turn invisible and well...I'm 99% sure she has something else up her sleeve! A Promise of Fire has action, humour, adventure, romance and Greek Gods and it's a perfect blend of things to keep you hooked on the book, and a perfect blend of things I like! I'm definitely intrigued to see what's going to happen next, and I'm really quite excited for the next book!
